A great second year!!
DFAC Pro Body Solutions Natural Championships, Peoria, Illinois
12 MayThe 11th of May saw the Pro Body Solutions show in Illinois. We arrived the day before staying at Stoney Creek where the polygraph and check in were held. The hotel was not far from the venue and Nelly from PBS was meeting and greeting all the athletes with goody bags.
The day of the show we were in the venue for just after 8. The venue techs were great and really made the stage set up a much more relaxed affair than usual. The recognition of Guy’s expertise meant that the techs loved working with us to create a great stage.
Show time and I too the role of head judge, through the barrier of language and accent we worked together athletes and I to show them off to their best. We moved everyone round to get them seen and everyone enjoyed themselves.
The Pro Figure class was a great class. The top 2 were very different but both great shapes and presentation. Alex Ellis took the class and is on schedule for a defence of the Worlds.
Ashley Lewis in the amateur Athletic was awarded a pro card and will be great in Miami. She had excellent shape, muscularity and stage presence. The athletic poses were executed with style and panache and a little tighter she’ll do great on the Pro stage.
Matt Burdess took the men’s overall and the coveted pro card. First he took the heavyweights then the overall. Nice shape, muscularity and routine. His balance of dance and posing was great entertainment for the audience. Again in Miami a little more condition will be needed but Matt is a future prospect.
Pro Body Solutions signed three athletes from the show Teri Egnot who placed third in the Pro Figure, Ashley our new Athletic Pro and Quintin Hurley who took the lightweight. PBS are great supporters of natural bodybuilding and these guys are lucky to have picked up a deal.
The rest of the show was great too with some good physiques.
The after show party was in the venue and offered just the right food for the athletes and families. The presentation of tables etc was again not left to chance and created a brilliant atmosphere.
Big thanks to Pro Body Solutions for a great show.
On the road again
10 MayIts early Thursday morning and once again I am in a departure lounge awaiting a flight to the states. The destination this time.
Aer Lingus to Dublin then pre clearance for the USA now thats a weird idea but great at the other end.
Met Vicky and Guy in Dublin. The second flight was great.
Went downtown Chicago what a nice city on the edge of Lake Michigan a great subway link from the airport too how easy.
Now waiting for Ben and Chiper Tenneson for the drive to Peroria and the Pro Body solutions set up and show. Rich Fitter on his way from New Jersey – the DFAC is a reflection of the effort of this involved and driving halfway across the US has to class as effort.
Onward and upward.
2013 Season Underway
21 AprThe first trip of the year is complete. I am sat in Orlando International Airport waiting for the first leg of my trip home. I thank Tim Berners-Lee most profusely for inventing the World Wide Web and Orlando airport for the free wifi.
Do you remember a time before mobile data, free wifi and smart phones, I do and sometimes harp back to the good old days when you could truly shut out the rest of the world and be alone easily, however, due to this and my chosen sport of bodybuilding I have had some of the best experiences and met some of the best people the world has to offer. Through modern technology I am able to keep in contact with a world wide family which is amazing.
The All Natural Options options New Jersey DFAC show and the Ormond Beach, Snowflake suits shows are complete, we have new Pros and lots of new friends in the DFAC family. Last year as the first for this new federation was a voyage of adventure, adrenaline driven and great fun. This second year is the foundation of the future, the DFAC ethos of putting the athlete first is beginning to show its first green shoots of growth. As an athlete myself I appreciate, the time provided by all those involved in the DFAC but none more show than its instigators Vicky McCann and Rich Fitter.
I have had the honour of spending a good amount of time with these guys and the behind the scenes driving force that is Guy Addison. Their total dedication to the improvement and continuation of the sport is amazing. As a group of three they invest time, money and emotion to the promotion of drug free bodybuilding and the creation of a platform worthy of the commitment and dedication of each and every athlete. An amazing group of three; like the three musketeers, Charlie’s angels or the three stooges they are formidable force, with courage, good looks and comedy timing.
The Drug Free Athletes Coalition does what it says on the tin. As a coalition the involvement of everyone is encouraged and recognised. If you want to get involved and help further our sport then come on down and join in……….
Hope to see you all at a show sometime soon ever competing, helping or enjoying the spectacle.

The night before…..
13 AprJust been for a lovely meal with Clif, Ashley and the kids in Sparta on the edge of Lake Mohawk (nice) – great company loved it. Now charging radios, catching up with the golf and preparing for a good nights sleep. This is the first DFAC trip that I have not been dieting and I am taking full advantage, nom nom nom.
Vicky has brought her competition kit, when laid out on the side you could question whether it is a kit fit for Dexter with the black tape, tie wraps and scissors – all she needs is s little clingfilm and she’s good to go…….
Dick’s, Target and Best Buys all visited and the first Starbucks of the trip imbibed. All Natural Options, New Jersey Classic is a gooooooo!!!!
See you all tomorrow.
the Journey begins again…..
12 AprHere I am sat in the airport, fully fuelled up on coffee, bored of duty free and now ready to board the plane and set off on my 2013 DFAC journey.
The trip to the airport was spectacularly poor, over the pennines the fog was really dense and the rain really awful. The visibility was not good at 04.30 and I tried to keep a decent pace but with white van man up my proverbial arse I did keep slowing down to ensure that he did not turn my overgrown tuktuk into a pretty ball of flames.
(I do find that having an LPG car with a cannister of highly flammable gas under your backside does focus the mind when someone gets close in zero visibility with snow on the ground and a little known road) – enough moaning.
On the flip side of the coin, the week I am looking forward to is bright, exciting and stimulating. The first show of the second year of the Drug Free Athlete’s Coalition. Just over 18 months ago this was just a flippant comments from one of my best mates and one I most admire. Now we have one very successful year under our belt with a humdinger of a World Championships in Miami and are about to set out on the, always difficult, second year.
The second year will be more successful than the first but will also be more difficult. The DFAC has set a standard that will be maintained but that is high. The athletes effort and commitment is only matched by the effort and commitment of the teams hosting shows all over the world. Every i is dotted and t crossed to make sure the day is the best it can be.
I am looking forward to seeing friends I made last year and meeting new ones. The DFAC is developing into a world wide family supporting and caring for each other across the miles.
To all who are competing this year – GOOD LUCK, for all those organising and running shows YOU ARE AWESOME and for all those coming to watch – get ready for a spectacle.
The Worlds will once again be in Miami on Nov 2nd. The show is well worth the trip but it certainly is a great place to add on a vacation. I hope to see lots of you there.
